FriendshipWorks offers an array of programs aimed at reducing isolation and providing friendly support and assistance to the people we serve.

Friendly Visiting
Friendly Visit volunteers visit isolated elders in their homes to provide companionship and assist with simple household tasks or errands. Friendly visitors and their “matches” develop strong and lasting friendships that are rewarding to both.
Medical Escort
Medical escort volunteers accompany elders or adults with disabilities to medical appointments, providing personalized physical and emotional support along the way.
PetPals
PetPals are canine and feline volunteers (and their owners!) who are screened and trained to visit residents in long-term care facilities. PetPals volunteers enrich the lives of over 600 elders and adults with disabilities who live in nursing homes and assisted living communities in Greater Boston.
La Cadena de Amistad
Our Jamaica Plain Chapter, La Cadena de Amistad provides all of FriendshipWorks’ services to Spanish-speaking elders in Jamaica Plain and surrounding neighborhoods. The program has a special emphasis on helping Spanish-speaking elders bridge barriers to health care and social services.
Strong for Life
Strong For Life volunteers combine the benefits of one-on-one socialization with exercise by incorporating healthy movement exercises into their visiting time. Additionally, our Walking Buddies program pairs an elder and a volunteer to walk together.
