Friendly Helping volunteers provide one-time and short-term assistance to elderly individuals who have a specific need and no one to help.
Age or physical disability can pose challenges for many elders who may be otherwise able, but need assistance with certain tasks. Many elders are socially isolated and have no one to help them with activities that are crucial for them to remain independent, such as picking up medications or filling out important paperwork.
The Friendly Helping Program provides a way for older adults in Boston to receive the help they need, while still feeling autonomous. Additionally, the volunteer opportunity is flexible and volunteers provide assistance to elders when they are available, without making a long-term commitment.
How It Works
Friendly Helping assist with tasks such as:
- Seasonal tasks (like shoveling or hanging decorations)
- Light packing
- Organizing papers or old photos
- Picking up medications
- Accompanying to tour assisted living or nursing home facilities
Volunteers need a willingness to help elders, patience, and a commitment to a minimum of three assists within a 6-month period. We need volunteers both with and without cars. This is a flexible opportunity and we are happy to work with your schedule.
