Our Strong For Life program matches volunteers with elders for both one-on-one and group exercise routines, designed specifically to improve the elder’s strength, flexibility, and balance.

A one-on-one Strong For Life match.
Why Strong For Life?
Many elders would like to exercise, but are fearful about doing it alone. Strong For Life volunteer can provide elders with the benefits of companionship, as well as improved balance and physical strengthening.
How It Works
Strong For Life volunteers are trained to incorporate healthy movement exercises into their weekly friendly visits. Depending on the needs of the elder, these exercises may include wheelchair and seated exercises, or more exercises that involve more movement.
Elders begin the Strong For Life exercises once a week with a volunteer. As strength and confidence builds, elders may be encouraged to exercise independently between visits.
For many of the Strong For Life exercises, elastic bands provide resistance that strengthens muscles important in everyday movements, such as getting out of a chair and walking.
Walking Buddies
The Walking Buddies specialty program matches volunteers with elders who would like a volunteer to walk with them. Depending on the needs of the elder, walks may be short or long, indoors or outside.
